What is it? The For the Birds Care App is designed to address the specific challenges bird owners face with the current services at the For the Birds avian clinic. 



Current Flow  ↓↓↓ For the birds, the only avian-specific veterinary clinic in the South Bay Area, currently relies on outdated communication methods. Users currently: 

> Only can schedule appointments and boarding via phone calls 

> Don’t have direct access to their birds’ medical records or appointment history - an especial inconvenience for those with multiple birds

> Must repeat their birds’ information at every visit

This creates frustration, slows down the check-in process, and limits the quality of long-term care and recordkeeping.
 



GoalsDesign a mobile app that improves communication between the clinic and bird owners by:

> Streamlining appointment and boarding scheduling

> Giving owners personal access to their birds’ medical records and visit history

> Allowing direct communication with veterinary professionals

> Creating individual profiles for each bird to reduce repeated data entry

User PersonasPrimary Users: Bird owners who visit For the Birds clinic for regular care, emergencies, or boarding

Secondary Users: Clinic staff who need quicker access to patient information and smoothing scheduling processes 

Interviews: Conducted informal conversations with bird owners to understand pain points with current clinic processes. 

Persona Development  ↓↓↓ : Created personas representing different types of bird owners


Insights> Owners feel disconnected from their bird’s care between visits 

> Phone-only scheduling is inconvenient and time-consuming 

> Not having access to records makes it harder for owners to monitor long-term health


Wireframes  ↓↓↓ Ensured that wireframes include digital scheduling, bird and user profiles, medical history access, and in-app messaging.


Visual Stylesheet ↓↓↓The branding was designed to feel approachable, calm, colorful, and friendly - mirroring the care and expertise offered by the clinic itself.

Profiles ↓↓↓A structured profile system keeps everything organized - each user has a personal profile with contact info and preferences, as well as individual bird profiles for each pet they own. Bird profiles store key details like species, age, diet, medications, and medication history, making repeat visits smoother and giving both the clinic and the owner quick access to important information.

Scheduling ↓↓↓An intuitive scheduling workflow allows the user to choose their bird, pick their appointment or boarding timing of choice, provide all the additional information, and have everything situated with what previously would have required wait time over the phone.


Chat Feature ↓↓↓For non-urgent medical questions that may not require an in-person visit, users will have the option to chat with a medical professional through a chat feature.


Next Steps & Future Developments> In-app payment integration: enable users to pay for appointments, boarding, or medications directly through the app 

> Push notifications & reminders: Send reminders for upcoming appointments, medication schedules, and routine checkups 

> Health Insights & Trends: Auto-generate summaries or charts based on medical history to track weight, diet changes, or recurring conditions
